Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 announced a gifted composer who respected tradition but refused to be bound to it. No. 8 rejoices in all the wit and wisdom he had acquired by the age of 44, and the Olympian appeal of the Violin Concerto comes to life under the eloquent fingers of Joshua Bell.

This multi-faceted clarinettist's infectious playing and delight in music making continues to move, excite, and amaze audiences around the world.

Dutch violin sensation Isabelle van Keulen, whose playing the British newspaper The Guardian has praised as "absolutely magical," joins Peter Oundjian and the TSO for a pair of Mozart's refreshing violin concertos. Rounding off the programme is Symphony No. 39, one of Mozart's most elegant creations.

Henning Kraggerud, the Norwegian soloist who has won his country's prestigious Grieg Prize and has been praised by the London Daily Telegraph as "one of the brightest young stars in the violin firmament" makes his Canadian debut at the festival. The TSO's gifted wind players perform the Gran Partita, Mozart's sumptuous serenade for 13 wind instruments and double bass.

The Festival comes to a touching conclusion with two masterpieces that Mozart composed during the last months of his life. The TSO's superlative Principal Clarinettist reveals all the warmth and poignancy of the Clarinet Concerto. With the soul-stirring Requiem - Mozart's final, unfinished work - he said a stirring farewell to his life and art.

Mozart's Magnificent Voyage

In the latest show from Classical Kids (creators of Beethoven Lives Upstairs), Mozart's young son, Karl, longs to be taken from his boarding school to spend more time with his famous father. His wish is fulfilled when Wolfgang Amadeus takes him to a performance of The Magic Flute.

TSO Children's Policy: Children 5 years of age and older are welcome to attend any TSO concert, with ticket purchase.
The TSO's Young People's Concerts and Family Christmas Concert are created especially for audience members ages 5 to 12. While children ages 2 to 5 are welcome, 5 years is considered an appropriate lower age limit. Children ages 2 to 5 may attend the concerts with ticket purchase, at their parents' discretion. Children under 2 years of age are not allowed into any TSO concerts.

Long a classic of the orchestral repertoire, the titanic rhythms in Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring are guaranteed to shake Roy Thomson Hall to its foundations. Providing perfect contrast, pianist Hélène Grimaud joins Peter Oundjian and the orchestra to conjure the rugged power and gentle Viennese charm of Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 2.
